Frozen Pipe defrosting and fixes

Does water fall short when turning on the faucet during winter? You may have a frozen pipe. Frozen pipe defrosting is a hassle to get around during the winter season, especially here in London Ontario. Not only does it prevent water from getting around your house, but a frozen pipe causes the water to expand and cause severe pipe integrity damages and ruptures that are difficult to fix or replace in the cold. Luckily, our London Ontario plumbers have the tools to fix frozen pipe and get you out of that situation. Do not hesitate to call us before it is too late!

How can frozen pipes be prevented

In the winter season, pipes freezing are common occurrences. However, some preventative measures may reduce the likelihood of pipes freezing. Here are some ways you can check to make sure and prevent pipes from freezing in your home.

Check for insulation
For pipes that are outdoors and exposed, make sure that they are properly insulated for the weather. Uninsulated pipes are unprotected pipes, and leaving the pipes exposed leads to them freezing. If you don’t have any insulation, we can help out by installing new insulation for your pipes. Give us a call before it is too late!

Avoid keeping Doors and Windows open
It may seem obvious not to open the doors and windows during the winter, but it is important to be conscious of any possible holes or cracks that are hiding within. If you feel a draft of cool air, inspect the windows and doors to make sure they are sealed tightly and have weather stripping, preventing cold air from entering and possibly freezing the pipes.

Empty Pipes with Stagnant Water
If the temperature of that day proves to be freezing, we suggest draining the water out of the garden hoses, water spigots, sprinklers and other objects with stagnant water. When water freezes, it expands and destroys the systems, draining them prior prevents this.
